JPPD4 Joan Pitman Paper Dolls - set of 4

Joan Pitman Paper Dolls - set of 4

Every girl will recall the delight of playing with paper dolls - of cutting out dresses and hats and occasionally sticky-taping a shoulder tab back on after a wardrobe malfunction. Whilst most of us were happy just to play dress-ups with our dolls, little-known Tasmanian artist, Joan Pitman, created her own, and turned her dreams of Hollywood glamour into a series of paper dolls in the image of Hollywood icons, including Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn, Claudette Colbert and Jean Harlow.
Joan Pitman, born in Hobart in 1917, created a miniature world of fashion and glamour through her watercolour and pencil paper dolls, before going on to work as a commercial artist and designer of threatre sets and costumes.
